Sustainable local economic development by strengthening the dialogue between local government, entrepreneurship and civil society.
Together with business associations in Brazil, bbw supports selected communities in rural areas in Brazil on their way to becoming a sustainable tourism destination. With the support of local and international consultants, the partner municipalities in southern and northeastern Brazil are implementing activities aimed at developing the tourism industry in a socially and environmentally-friendly manner and adapting it to the special conditions of the Covid crisis.
The project is financed with funds from BMZ (Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development) and managed by sequa gGmbH.
Strategies in the tourism sector during times of Corona
Since the corona crisis in early 2020, Brazil, like many other countries, has been in shutdown mode. This situation is exacerbating an already weak economy and is leading to severe slumps in almost all economic sectors. Due to (inter)national travel restrictions, the labour-intensive tourism industry is particularly affected.
Regional tourism development strategies with inter-departmental and integrated sustainable approaches can be an important driver for economic growth and job creation.
DEL Tourism promotes a sustainable development of the municipalities
Together with the partner municipalities, bbw develops new concepts for sustainable "soft tourism", particularly focused towards domestic tourism, and supports the municipalities in getting certified as "green destinations". This results in new cycle tracks, local energy cooperatives, innovative waste management systems or new marketing concepts. With regard to the current Corona pandemic, we are developing adapted apps that inform tourists about the current rules of conduct.
The project is supported by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development via sequa gGmbH
