In Bavaria's partner country Ethiopia, vocational qualification is being promoted on the basis of the proven Bavarian training system - a cornerstone for the future career of many young people.
In this BINA project (BINA = building up), the Vocational Training and Development Centers of the Bavarian Employers' Associations (bfz) cooperate with the Ethiopian project partners, Misrak Polytechnic College and Selam College in Addis Ababa. Together they design instruments and techniques of practice-oriented vocational training which have already been tested in the international context in other countries and adapt them to the Ethiopian context.
This applies not only to the vocational training itself, but also to vocational orientation and competence assessment prior to the start of training, as well as to the follow-up support and placement of the trainees following the training courses.
Rising demand for qualified workers
With about 100 million inhabitants, Ethiopia is the second largest country in Africa in terms of total population and also shows high population growth. At the same time Ethiopia is one of the poorest countries in Africa. Droughts and social conflicts are the reason for a significant internal migration.
Many positive developments have been initiated in the country in recent years. These include infrastructural projects, the development of industry, especially for the processing of agricultural products, and the expansion of international tourism. This is accompanied by a growing demand for qualified specialists and also for vocational training capacities. The BINA project is intended to contribute to the development of these capacities and an improved interlocking of vocational training with the private sector.
More involvement of the local economy
Misrak Polytechnic College and Selam College in Addis Ababa are amongst the major vocational training institutions in the capital. The college teachers act as multipliers and are trained by bfz trainers in the areas of competence analysis (profiling) and job placement. The local specialists are also supported by bfz experts in the further development of technical training. In selected areas, the technical equipment of the colleges’ practice rooms will also be improved.
Supported by the Bavarian State Government.
Project duration from July 2019 until June 2022.
