The Egyptian biodynamic association EBDA and the Egyptian organic farm SEKEM, both project partners of bbw International, have become the first Egyptian organisations to win the "Gulbenkian Prize for Humanity 2024".

The jury of the Gulbenkian Prize, chaired by Dr Angela Merkel , selected SEKEM and EBDA as joint winners with the Indian organisations APCNF and Rattan Lal from 181 nominees from 117 countries. EBDA and SEKEM will share the prize money of EUR 1 million equally with their co-winners to continue and expand their work for safer and more sustainable food systems.

Angela Merkel, President of the jury: "Access to high-quality food is of existential importance for all people. ... This year's award winners have shown in an exemplary manner how climate-resilient and sustainable food systems can be developed and implemented."

The Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development BMZ supports the partnership projects between bbw and EBDA via sequa , which contribute to the development and scaling up of the sustainable Economy of Love standard of EBDA and SEKEM as part of the Partner Africa project "Economy of Love" and the KVP "Organic Egypt", as a result of which many thousands of small farmers in Egypt are converting their agricultural cultivation to sustainable methods and also benefiting economically from this.
