Better education and employment options for young Kurds and refugees in Northern Iraq.
In Northern Iraq, the Berufliche Fortbildungszentren der Bayerischen Wirtschaft (bfz) are supporting measures aimed at improving vocational education and the development of dual training structures. Internally displaced persons along with other disadvantaged groups in the country are to be given future prospects by establishing new vocational opportunities locally.
Promoting peaceful development
Present day Iraq is unfortunately in a state of political and national crisis. The armed conflict between the autonomous region of Kurdistan and the Islamic State is contributing to this. Kurdistan is sheltering an increasing number of internally displaced people and refugees from the Syrian war zone. Many of them live in refugees camps spread over the entire country. As an immediate aid and a contribution towards laying the foundations for a peaceful future, these people are to be offered vocational training and hence the opportunity to earn a livelihood.
Improving training options
The bfz and its partners are contributing their knowledge, experience and proven strategies in the region. The main objective is to qualify disadvantaged individuals (adolescents, women, handicapped persons) in Kurdish provinces for the labour market.
An improved and progressive portfolio of vocational training courses aims to enhance the value of technical vocations while boosting demand for young people. This promotes training oriented to the jobs market.
The bfz is realising this project in close collaboration with the partners Ambero Consult and KGE (Kurdish-German European Business Alliance) in the region. The first project phase started in August 2016 and is set to end in July 2019.
The Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) is financing the project of Northern Iraq (Kurdistan) via sequa as part of a Vocational Training Partnership Programme (BBP).
