With qualified personnel, bfz trains skilled water management workers in Kenya to improve the precarious situation of water supply and sanitation.
In cooperation with the Kenya Water Institute (KEWI) and the Water Service Providers Association (WASPA) in Nairobi, bfz instructs a pool of trainers in the water and sanitation sector. These trainers have the necessary qualifications to independently train skilled workers from water supply and wastewater disposal plants on-site. In this way, existing plants can be maintained more efficiently or put back into operation through project BIWAC (Bavarian Institutional Water Cooperation).
Drought and flight movements cause overuse of available water resources
In the area of water management in the country, a continuing drought and migration movements from Southern Sudan and Somalia and the resulting increasing overuse of water resources form a threatening backdrop for the country. This has already led to political unrest. For the private and partially state-controlled water suppliers, there is also the fact that the water management administration is in a state of upheaval and that competencies are being transferred to the district administrations (Water Act).
Qualification of skilled workers on-site
bfz trains 36 Kenyan trainers in several courses on the subject of water supply and sanitation. They learn not only specialist knowledge, but also didactics in order to carry out training courses and to produce the necessary training material. The trainers in Kenya can independently train skilled workers from water and wastewater plants and maintain existing plants more efficiently or put them back into operation.
