Training for better water supply

Training for better water supply

With qualified personnel, bfz trains water management specialists in Tunisia to improve the precarious situation of water supply and sanitation.

In cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development and the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Fisheries in Tunis, bfz instructs a pool of trainers in the water and wastewater sector. These trainers have the necessary qualifications to independently train skilled workers from water supply and wastewater disposal plants on-site. In this way, existing plants can be maintained more efficiently or put back into operation  through project BIWAC (Bavarian Institutional Water Cooperation).

Efficient use of available water resources

One of the greatest challenges in Tunisia is the inadequate water supply in some parts of the country. Tunisia already uses 95% of its available water resources. Only an Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) can ensure the effective use of all available water resources. This also includes functioning water supply and wastewater disposal systems. Providing water of sufficient quality and quantity for the population, industry, tourism and agriculture is a major challenge for Tunisia.

Qualification of skilled workers on-site

bfz trains 18 Tunisian trainers in several courses on the subject of water supply and sanitation. They learn not only the specialist knowledge, but also didactics in order to carry out training courses and to produce the necessary training material. This enables trainers in Tunisia to independently train skilled workers in water and wastewater treatment plants and to maintain existing plants more efficiently or put them back into operation. The construction of a photovoltaic system at a pumping station within the framework of the project has reduced the power requirement of the system and the energy costs.

The project is supported by the Bavarian State Chancellery.
