Seminars offer Senegalese teachers, company representatives, trainers and heads of vocational training institutions, specialist knowledge of the German VET system and methods of competence assessment and potential analysis. In the medium and long term, realistic and locally and regionally market-oriented VET structures and systems will be designed and implemented.
The bbw has been running the pilot project in Bavaria and Senegal since July 2018. The implementation of specialist seminars on the topics of vocational orientation, competence assessment and dual vocational training offers Senegalese teachers, company representatives, trainers and heads of vocational training institutions specialist knowledge of the German vocational training system and methods of competence assessment and potential analysis. The aim is to support responsible Senegalese parties in designing, adapting and implementing their VET system.
Supporting Senegalese authorities
The Republic of Senegal is one of the most stable countries in West Africa. 55% of the 16 million Senegalese are under 20 years old. Almost half of these young people have no vocational education, which is a factor of high youth unemployment in Senegal.
The Senegalese government has set itself the goal of training 30% of these young people by 2030. To achieve this, the Ministry of Vocational Education and Training has initiated the reform of the education system.
Training of trainers, teachers and multipliers
Representatives of the Senegalese Ministry of Education and the Ministry for Vocational Training, Teaching and Crafts, teachers, those responsible for vocational orientation and multipliers are trained by bbw/bfz experts on the topics of potential analysis, practical methods of profiling and the German system of dual vocational training. Through visits to German companies and training centres, Senegalese company representatives and those responsible for the vocational training centres learn about the practical implementation and organization of the dual system and the integration of the apprentice in the company.
The subproject has a duration of 4 months from July to October 2018 and is financed by the Bavarian State Chancellery through GIZ.
